The Penney Family Fund is a third and fourth-generation family foundation. Our current grantmaking programs focus on Racial Justice and Economic and Environmental Justice.
Our Guiding Principles
People closest to the problem are best equipped to understand the problem and come up with solutions
Grassroots, local, place-base organizing (i.e., movement building) is crucial to build the people power required to create and sustain long-term, national, structural shifts
We give grants based on trust-based philanthropy and trust our partners to use support as they see best fit
Recognition
We recognize that our foundation's resources derive from social and economic systems that were, and are, built on racist, sexist and other structural inequities. Our founders and ancestors challenged inequities in their own ways and within the framework of their times. We pledge to continue challenging them, in new ways, in our times.
